It seems as though many Apple II owners out there have started to think of Apple as being on par with the plague or Satan. I don't thinkk Apple is out to screw us. Apple obviously cares a bit about the Apple II owners out there, if only because they'll someday buy Macs (or whatever supplants the Mac; I think there will be a bit of glee on our part when the next Apple computer rolls over the Macintosh...). If Apple wanted to annoy us, it would simply drop the line and stop development of system software. It would suffer no great PR blow, for everyone else thinks that the Apple II is dead already. Apple, while turning from the iconoclasts to the army of business suits, is still pretty nice. And, they aren't doing this for schools; most of them still use DOS 3.3 and ProDOS only with AppleWorks... I work for an Apple dealer (because I love the Apple II), and while they aren't helping the Apple II, they aren't actively killing it. The Apple II has gone back to its roots; it has become a hackers' machine once again. I see the future of the II in the PD/shareware field, not developers who want to turn a profit. <go back and read the article if you haven't already> Ya know, Ed, I have to agree with you. I believe the Apple II has gone full circle. I still see a future for the II (probably with the GS) among its loyal owners for quite a while. ============================================================================== Edge @ Purdue (where the football team sucks, but so do the cheerleaders!)
