[comp.sys.apple2] damaged turbobee

nether@wpi.WPI.EDU (Joel C Belog) (04/15/91)

Hello there. I recently picked-up the turbobee demo from
comp.binaries.apple2 and when I tried to unskrink it, It told me it
was damaged. I then downloaded turbobee from tybalt.caltech.edu
and that copy also had CRC-check error.

Could the author please repost it ... you should also remove the one
on tybalt.

Thanks. Joel Belog internet: nether@wpi.wpi.edu

I checked the one that was uploaded to tybalt (and not the one I captured
from the binaries, which might have been a mistake) -- it unpacked fine
but crashed into the monitor when I booted it. I snooped through the boot
code and it looks like it couldn't load something because it jumps to $9600
and there's garbage there, and it BRKs at 9607 or so.

I deleted them both, assuming they were from the same packing (I think it
was corrupted before it was packed, or the program barely works. They do some
marginal softswitch stuff, and it still crashed when I turned my Zip off, so
it looks like a fragile demo to me in any case).

In regards to the Turbo Bee Demo.

I posted this to comp.binaries.apple2 and uploaded it to Tybalt. When I first
botted Turbo Bee, I found that it crashed if I simply tried to open-apple-
reset while my machine was booting. It wouldn't work. However, when I changed
the start up slot in the control panel to slot #5, it worked fine (and was
quite impressive too).

I can't explain the error on the uploads to binaries, with the exception that
the parts may have been a bit too big and got truncated by the mail server.
From the mail I've received it seems that the last part (the part less than
$3000 long) was missing. Anyways, I had reports that the copy on Tybalt
was fine (successfully unpacked and booted).

So, tell me what you want me to do. I've gotten fed up with the mail server.
It seems to mess up everything I try to post these days.

Well, I got the copy that was on c.b.a2, and it worked fine. Kinda
cute demo. I'd like to see it running on the TurboRez card...

Well, I downloaded the TurboBee demo from America Online, and when I unpacked
it to a 3.5" disk it worked perfectly on my ROM 3 IIGS (went a little bonkers
when I tried to get into the control panel w/OA-Ctl-Esc while the program was
running, but it was still a nice graphics demo)... It looked almost exactly the
same as the demo which was running on the prototype TurboRez at AppleFest/NJ
almost a year ago... (I actually couldn't see any differences at all, but,
then, I didn't get a real long look at the TurboRez demo at AFNJ anyway... :)
