[comp.sys.apple2] 80 col. card in II+?

warden@gradient.cis.upenn.edu (Robert Warden) (04/20/91)

Does anyone know if an Apple //e 80 column
card will work in an Apple II+?

I have a Apple //e 80 column card for sale
(I sold the rest of the computer), but
I don't know if it will work in an
Apple II+. Anyone who is
interested in buying it, I'm asking
$15 or whatever you think it's worth.

No, it won't. The //e has a special memory expansion slot; the older Apple
II models lack that slot. Expansion cards for the old models plugged into
the Apple II peripheral bus, which has different characteristics.

Nope. The Apple IIe 80 column card requires the auxilary slot on the IIe, whichis not on the Apple II+ motherboard. A few thrid party manufacturers made
80 column cards for the II+ (most notably Videx) but they are long extinct.

PS Nobody would want the plain old 80 column card for the IIe nowadays.
Without the extended 64K, it is useless. It'll make a pretty silly
    paper weight.

Doesn't Applied Engineering still sell their 80-column card? (Yeah,
yeah, 900 numbers are a lousy way to do tech support, but my DataLink
2400 and my RamWorks haven't died on me.)

Or, as the seller posted, you might get a handful of parts from it.
(A small handful; I have the extended 80-column card left over from
installing the RamWorks. It's just 64K of DRAM (eight chips), a
74LS245, a 74LS373, a jumper, ten bypass capacitors, and the board.
Not a whole lot of stuff.)
