[comp.sys.apple2] Problem with Alert Sound

WRDJ@VAX5.CIT.CORNELL.EDU ("It's freedom of speech, as long as you don't say too much.") (04/25/91)

Hi all,

I'm not sure if this went through last night (I think it did, 'cuz Rick
Ewing found me), but the listserv reminded me that posts had to go to the
apple.com address rather than the listserv address, so I'm sending it again
just in case.

I installed Alert Sound last night, and can't get it to work. No matter
which sound I select, I just get an ordinary GS system beep. I tried adding
my own sound file, and didn't have any more success.
I'm running it on a ROM 01 machine with system 5.0.4. No other sound-
oriented inits or cdevs are installed. I do have the Desk Color and Twilight
cdev's installed (but I removed the SKULLey Twilight module, since it's got a
sound element to it).
     Any help would be appreciated.
In addition, I've only just gotten back on the Net, and am about a year
behind in Apple II news. Any significant developments or rumors I should hear
about? StyleWriter drivers? TrueType (or clones thereof)? Anything at all?

I can be reached at this address (wrdj@crnlvax5.bitnet) or at my QuickMail
address (Bill_Dickson@qmrelay.mail.cornell.edu). Thanks in advance!
