Ok, I STILL haven't got a reply to my plea for help. So, just in case some kind soul missed it and would really love to help a fellow IIgs user out, I'm reposting the question in hopes of an answer: I'm having a problem with a friends IIgs' memory card. It's a standard Apple brand 1 MB memory expansion card with 256K X 8 DIPs running at 120ns. It's wreaking havoc with the computer and I can't run any desktop programs because of it. I ran Claris's RAM card tester and got errors at the following addresses: 080000 097A20 080002 097CC0 080900 0ABE20 The card is set up as 4 banks of 256K chips in two rows. The top row is marked UA1...UA16 and the bottom row is marked UB1...UB16. I'd like to replace the offending chips and not have to replace entire banks. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE help me out if you can. I know somebody out there has the answer. :} Just a note, this is not MY card or MY IIgs, but I'd hate to see someone jump ship on the IIgs just because it doesn't work right. My friend is a physician that has a good notion to dump the IIgs and go with an IBM clone. I don't mind the fact that he's impressed with modern PC clones, but I'd hate to see another IIgs supporter bite the dust. He's got the bucks to get any computer on the market, but we both agreed that a Mac is not in the picture. Thanks for any help. / _______________________________________________ \ / / ProLine: pro-nbs!lhaider \\\' , / // INET: lhaider@pro-nbs.cts.com \\\//, _/ //, UUCP: crash!pro-nbs!lhaider \_-//' / //<, ARPA: crash!pro-nbs!lhaider@nosc.mil \ /// <//` BITNET: lhaider%pro-nbs.cts.com@nosc.mil / >> \\\`__/_ /,)-^>>\` , \\\ The opinions express here are just opinions. Now we have something worth fighting for!!! :) Your physician-friend ain't goin' nowhere... :) Have you tried the usual: reseating the chips, examining/cleaning the feet on the DRAM's, examining/cleaning the fingers on the slot connector, making sure it is firmly plugged into the slot, etc. Did you try his memory card in a different computer (like yours)? You could try bringing it back to an Apple II Dealer (if one exists in your area) and have them check out the chips with their equipment. Brian T.
