[comp.sys.apple2] Back to the Land of the Living

johnt@meaddata.com (John Townsend) (05/02/91)

I am in the process of resurrecting my Apple //e after several years of
neglect (hey, gimme a break... I got married!), and am amazed by how much stuff
I have that is woefully obsolete. For example, Applewriter is no more; now you
have to have AppleWorks 3.0. And the latest version of Copy II Plus is WHAT?!
9.0!! Good grief. Does Central Point Software still have the policy that you
can upgrade your version of Copy II Plus to the current version for $5 or
something like that? Heck, do they still exist? I tried calling the number in
my manual, but it was disconnected.

I just contacted Claris (did I hear something awhile back about them being a
spinoff of Apple?) about upgrading my Applewriter 1.1 (relax, it IS on a
16-sector DOS 3.3 disk!). I'd love to see their faces when they see this disk.
I'm wondering, though, if and how I should expand my memory over 128K. The
auxiliary slot is used by my Microsoft Premium Softcard //e (a combination
80-column, 64K, and 3 MHz Z80 card), which I don't want to remove. Would it be
possible for me to put a 1 Meg AE RamFactor (or something similar) in slot 3
without it interfering with the Softcard, and would AW 3.0 recognize it? The
Softcard should behave about the same as the Apple Extended 80-Column card.

Thanks!
