>I've been using a Novation Apple Cat II modem at 300 baud for awhile now. >I got it used with no software, instructions, or clue about it's use. >Now, I'm wondering if it might be able to handle faster speeds. In a nut shell, my question is: What is the baud rate of a Novation Apple >Cat II modem? Jennifer, why don't you do it the scientific way, by setting your terminal program and calling BBSes at various speeds. I believe, 110, 300 and 1200 bps will all work. You might be interested in knowing you have a collector's item. The reason why those modems stopped being manufactured was because they had tone generation capability and a lot of apple // phreaks/pirates were using those capabilities to phreak their way to boards all over the place. I still have the original programs for those modems on disk. Heh. But in any case, it's time for an upgrade. 300 baud is intolerable. A lot of BBSes are starting to make 2400 their minimum baud. Oh well. (come on, 2400 isn't that expensive, a GVC 2400 sells for about $125 canadian here.) Hope this helps. UUCP: zoo.toronto.edu!generic!pnet91!argonaut INET: argonaut@pnet91.cts.com
