When you decompress .Z files on a CMS machine they may be text files but they look like binary to CMS. This is OK! When you go into kermit on CMS set the file-type to binary, escape back to kermit on your Apple and set file-type to text and recieve! It has worked everytime for me. >2: CMS-kermit with binary files. as in not BINSCII'd. Are you talking about .SHK files here? No problem for kermit. Just make sure you set the file-type to binary for both Apple's kermit and your CMS machine's kermit. Should work fine then. >3: Assuming the answer to (2) above is no, I can d/l to a mac here (lots > faster too). question is what do i do with the files after I've got > them on a mac disk? I've got A2FX. Will that do it or do i need to use > Apple File Exchange (which none of the lab people know about...) > (me:'yeah. to transfer to an apple 2 disk' LA:'to transfer to WHAT???') You are right about it being faster! And yes you can do it! Don't use AFE though. Use either A2FX or (damn slips my mind, there is another one). A2FX will work great though. Make sure you set things to binary if they are binary and text if they are text! (execpt in the case of your first question) Bring the MAC (yeech!) disk home, run A2FX, pop the MAC disk in and away you go! BTW...You should get/have a program that changes filetypes on the apples end as I believe A2FX saves all files as binary even though they may be text (the other program does) You only need this though if you want to load a plain text file into a word processor or editor though...BINSCII and Shrinkit can recognize any filetype. > ...and i swear this is the last time i'll ask these silly questions...
