[comp.sys.apple2] Parallel --> Serial

kjs39186@uxa.cso.uiuc.edu (Kent Squires) (05/11/91)

Is there a way to run a serial device (namely a printer) from a parallel
card on an Apple //e? I've got an AE Parallel Pro w/256k Buffer Pro and
would like to run my brother's Imagewriter II on it over the summer. Is
this possible?

Sure. Look for a parallel to serial converter. This is not an
apple-specific piece of equipment, so you can check your IBM
equipment ads (like Computer Shopper).

Unfortunately this is not a cheap piece of equipment (even
though the concept is excessively simple (for parallel to
serial you just load the data in parallel to a shift register
and shift the bits out in serial at the proper speed).
