[comp.sys.apple2] Worst keyboard of all time

greg@hoss.unl.edu (Lig Lury Jr.) (05/15/91)

I just remembered something, and thought of an interesting prank to pull.
Just before I left my old high school, they had replaced half of the
typewriters in the typing class with the platinum Apple //e computers,
running AppleWorks I believe. I was wondering what would be involved in
putting a device between the keyboard and motherboard so that whenever you
typed a key, you'd get the sound of a ball typewriter. Include special
sound for cursor positioning keys like spacebar, backspace, and return.
Alternatively, some modification to AppleWorks that could play digitized
sounds of these through the speaker for each character. Something that
can be booted before AppleWorks to install, or something that can be added
to an AppleWorks disk/program. I'd love to do that sometime to the
teacher of that class. (He locks up everything. I remember a cabinet he
had kept in the hallway with a simple hook on the inside to lock one door,
and then a key to latch the other behind it, which could be opened by
hitting the top of the door (where the hook was) sufficiently hard.
(Later he changed the hook, which would then involve getting the door
partially open and pushing the springloaded catch down out of the way.)

Well anyway, anyone up to coding something like that?
