[comp.sys.apple2] Does IIGS "buffering" actually work?

giovin@ecs.umass.edu (05/16/91)

I was wondering if anyone's been able to use the printer buffering
on the IIGS control panel? This buffer can't do something neat
like use extra memory as a big printing buffer can it?

There's a very good shareware INIT (BUFFER.INIT, I believe) which works in
conjunction with the keyboard buffer to provide either a 32K or 64K buffer
for TEXT (not graphics mode) printing. It's great if you run AppleWorks3.0
off of a GS/OS boot (I do it off of a RamKeeper on one machine and a hard
drive on another).

Actually, that's exactly what it's for. Unfortunately, it defaults to only
a 2K buffer. Fortunately, there are a couple utilities that will let you
define the size of the buffer. They're available, but I don't know offhand
what they'd be. I'd recommend checking the FTP sites.
