Well, I know ONE of them. I'm using it. My set-up is as follows:

Apple ][+ with 64K RAM
Apple Rev C ROM SCSI Card (the "old" SCSI card NOT the "high speed" DMA card)
You'll need to hunt around for a used one of these.
Any external SCSI drive that works with any other ][. I have a used Apple
    HDSC 20.
Chinook SCSI utilities. (They're selling version 1.5, I have Version 0.98)
Correct cabling. (I have original Apple cables that I got with my used drive
but any other decent cabling should work.)

As far as substituting for any one of these goes: DONT DO IT. The only other
SCSI cards I know of that work in a ][+ are the CMS card (no longer made?)
and the Cirtech card (The one they use for their internal drives). The
Ramfast SCSI card will NOT work. I've had a long (long for a couple of email
messages anyway) discussion with Drew Vogan from CV on why it would or wouldn't
work. It is a problem with bus loading on the old TTL based ]['s. I'm still
waiting to get a straight answer (NOT "because we say so") from Apple or
anyone else on whether or not the Apple "High Speed" SCSI card will work.

Hints to folks answering that: I want to know if anyone has tried it and
what their experiences were. If anyone knows WHY it wouldn't work on a ][+
(again, NOT "because Apple says so") I'd like to know. I wouldn't want to
have to replace my entire computer just because my Rev C SCSI card goes bad and
I can't get another one.

On SCSI drive formatting: I've tried a number of programs for formatting and
partitioning drives and the Chinook utilities are by far the best. The price
is within reason ($29.95) and they work without problems on a ][+. There are
a couple of shareware and free programs that will do the same things. There
are some disadvantages to going the shareware route. Most of the shareware and
commercial utility programs will NOT work on a ][+, even if it has an 80 column
card. Apple's utility programs absolutly will not work. For shareware
programs, you'll need one program for formatting and a second for partitioning.
I like the Chinok utils because it does everything including putting ProDOS 8
on the formatted drive. I hope this info helps.
