[comp.sys.apple2] Monitors for the GS

anarch@eleazar.dartmouth.edu (The Anarch) (05/24/91)

OK, folks, I *know* there are some knowledgeable people out there,
because I saw a whole slew of posts about GS monitors--frequencies, sizes,
resolutions, inputs, outputs, all kinds of stuff. So I will repeat my
question to the net: does anyone know if a Magnavox CM8764 can be used
with a GS? Is it the same as a 1CM135? If not, what are the differences?
And, importantly, if it can be used, how is it to be cabled? This info
is *very* important to me, since I have been basically computerless
since I lost my GS monitor, and I have finally got an opportunity within
my means to get a new monitor--if it will work, of course. I would
really appreciate any help or advice you can offer. Thanks.

Well, I can't specifically tell you if it will work. However, during my
research about GS monitors (I'm the one who was asking all those questions
about 3 weeks ago.) I picked up a copy of the latest Computer Shopper
mag. Much to my glee, they have a series of very informative articles on
the different aspects of monitor technology and what to look for. Although
the article is geared to IBM users, the information is generic enough
that I think you would find it useful. They also give an enormous 4 or
5 page table of monitors (with their resolutions, etc) and at then end
they give telephone numbers for a huge number of manufacturers.

Since this article covers virtually everything I was going to in my
article, I've decided to just recommend the Computer Shopper issue
instead. Armed with it, most people should be able to track down the
rest of the imformation the need themselves (including cabling info)
