Hello, Thye Chean here. I am still unable to figure out how to download/upload softwares. And where can I find all those great softwares on the net? Can somebody please tell me the address of the Apple II softwares, and how do I ftp them into my account. I have access to IBM 3081 mainframe (currently typing on it), a Macintosh II that can telnet to it. But I still could not figure out how to do all those stuffs. The softwares are saved in what format? After downloading, what filetype shall I change it to? And do I need to unshrink them? Thanks for those who cares. *********************************************************************** *** Apple IIGS Forever *** An Apple IIGS lover from Malaysia. I have access to IBM 3081 Thye Chean, Assuming you actually have the program "FTP" at your site, you should consult the manual pages (ie type the following: man ftp) for how to actually use the program. As for sites, two of the best I've found are: tybalt.caltech.edu (login name: anonymous, password: your email address) wuarchive.wustl.edu (same login steps as above) Both have a large amount of useful programs, and wuarchive also has an enormous amount of stuff for other machines. For the Apple // stuff, make sure you get ShrinkitGS and Binscii (of you could use the GScii NDA). These are essential for processing the files you recieve. First use Binscii to convert to text file to a Shrinkit archive file. Then use Shrinkit to convert the archive back into its constituent files. -- Kevin S. On tybalt.caltech.edu, type 'cd pub/apple2' to get to the apple II stuff. The programs are divided into different directories. Once you see a program you like, type 'get <filename>' and the file will be downloaded to your Unix directory. Once you have a file you need to downloaded. Typical files need to be first UnBinscii'd then run through ShrinkIt. At tybalt, pickup a copy of binscii which is speciall formatted so you don't need binscii to unpack it (!!). Also, read the README file there, it should tell you everything else you need to know about downloading Apple II software. -- ++------------S-U-P-P-O-R-T---S-H-A-R-E-W-A-R-E---O-R---D-I-E-!-----------++ || Tim Meekins || Snail Mail: || Apple II || || meekins@cis.ohio-state.edu || 8372 Morris Rd. || Forever! || \\___timm@pro-tcc.cts.com________/\____Hilliard, OH 43026__/\_____________//
