[net.space] STS-8 Express Mail Cover

rjnoe@ihlts.UUCP (10/18/83)

I got mine last week. It's at least as good as I had hoped for. To me it
was certainly worth the investment. I hope they do more of these in the
future.

For those of you that ordered one of these covers, but haven't received
it yet, keep the faith - I just got mine today (Oct 17). It was sent by
certified mail, and enclosed in a very nice folder which has several
shots of Challenger (actually, the entire folder is made up of photos),
some stats on the mission, and an explanation of the cover.

The cover itself has the $9.35 express mail stamp, a reproduction of the
STS-8 "patch" as the cachet, and three different cancellations - one from
the Kennedy Space center (dated Aug 14) with NASA's 25th anniversary logo
and the words "Space mail, orbited via STS-8"; one dated Aug 30, with the
words "Launched aboard Challenger"; and one dated Sep 5, with the words
"Returned to Earth, Edwards AFB, Ca."

I think the USPS/NASA did a good job on it, and that it was well worth
the money. Many thanks to whoever posted the notice in this group (I've
since forgotten their name), about this offer.
