Do any of you folks use Softerm 2 and/or Softerm ProDOS, by Softronics? I think I'd mostly be interested in knowing what you think of this terminal program, but I also have a question or two about it. I bought Softerm 2 about five years ago when I needed a terminal program that could emulate a wide variety of different terminals at high speed without dropping characters. It also supports DOS 3.3, CP/M, and UCSD p-System disk formats, but alas, not ProDOS. Nevertheless, it came with excellent documentation and support, and I considered it well worth its $200 list price (though I never pay list price!). Just recently, Softronics finally released a ProDOS-only version, and offered me an "upgrade" for $60 (list price: $195), which I did. Softerm ProDOS, however, is nothing like Softerm 2, and IMHO is comparable to what I would expect from a program with a $40 list price. Except for the fact that it is ProDOS based, which is good, the program seems to be technically inferior in every way to its predecessor. What do you think? Now, my question: I'm trying to use Softerm 2 and Softerm ProDOS on a //e with a Versacard serial card to an external modem and an Alphabits II printer card. Softerm 2 recognizes the Versacard but not the Alphabits (although it recognized the Alphabits as a Super Serial Card when I was using it as a modem interface), and Softerm ProDOS recognizes the Alphabits card but not the Versacard (since it only has configurations for the SSC or IIgs serial port for a modem). Any suggestions? -- John Townsend Internet: johnt@meaddata.com c/o Mead Data Central UUCP: ...!uunet!meaddata!skibum!johnt P.O. Box 933 Telephone: (513) 865-7250 Dayton, Ohio, 45401
