Hello, Thye Chean here again. I am here to say "Thanks!" to so many people who take time to reply my questions. I have successfully connected to some of the FTP sites and am enjoying some of the greatest GS programs I ever seen (highest recommendation is given to Columns GS, everybody please get it and support the authors!). I have tried using ShrinkItGS to unpack .Z files but fail. Somebody mentioned to me today that I need to use binary type, so I will try again tonight (I always use text type). By the way, I would also like to recommend every Apple IIGS users to buy and support GS+, the finest and most informative magazine for the Apple IIGS users. Besides, Seven Hill is looking for programmers in Singapore, to develop more great softwares for GS. So, Americans out there! Contact Seven Hill and offer them your programs! I hope to see more and better GS programmers in the future. *********************************************************************** *** Apple IIGS Forever *** An Apple IIGS lover from Malaysia. A recent conversation with Andy Nicholas (author of ShrinkIt!) leads me to believe that this is one of the features he is working on supporting in his next major upgrade of ShrinkIt! Unfortunately, (or perhaps fortunately!) he is busy right now ironing out the final bugs of System 6.0 for Apple and hasn't had much time to spend with ShrinkIt! (Correct me if I'm wrong, Andy!) Hopefully, he will have time at a later date. You should always use BINARY when ftp'ing programs. In this case, I don't _believe_ it makes a difference. BINARY turns on the high bit send, which I don't think makes a difference in the case of Apple II programs, but better safe than sorry. Kudos to Columns GS! I use it to prove some of the superior capabilties of the GS to my think-they-have-better-computers friends. It's VERY addictive, and I like the ability to change the basic blocks to whatever patterns I wish. If you don't have Columns, GET IT! By the way, I tried to send you mail earlier, but it didn't get through. Could you send me your BITNET address via Email? Send it to kenfair@owlnet.rice.edu. Mr Toaster -- Kenneth J. It's _StuffIt_ compression he doesn't have installed yet. My fault. Ken -- Kenneth J. Funny, I don't recall this conversation, although I talk to enough people in a week's time that I could have said almost anything... :-) >Unfortunately, (or perhaps fortunately!) he is busy right >now ironing out the final bugs of System 6.0 for Apple and hasn't had >much time to spend with ShrinkIt! (Correct me if I'm wrong, Andy!) Huh? I think you are drawing inferences that aren't correct -- I work on the Finder, not anywhere else in Apple IIGS System Software. The Finder, and only the Finder (and believe me, it's more than enough! ;-) > Hrrrmmmph. Oops. GSHK does support .Z compression. >Sorry, Andy. It's _StuffIt_ compression he doesn't have installed yet. >My fault. I have no plans to add StuffIt compression to GS-ShrinkIt. GS-ShrinkIt already DECOMPRESSES StuffIt 1.5.1 files, and I have written to Aladdin yet again asking for information on how to decode StuffIt Classic v1.6 and StuffIt Deluxe files (which they will probably turn down.. again). I may have said something about wanting to add PKZIP decompression along with LZH decompression. andy -- Andy Nicholas GEnie & America-Online: shrinkit Apple IIGS System Software CompuServe: 70771,2615 Apple Computer, Inc.
