Well, I finally got around to buying a hard drive for my IIGS (ROM 01, 1.25 MB): TMS Peripherals Pro105 & RamFast SCSI. (By the way, TMS provided good response time & were helpful in answering my questions on their 800 number.) I haven't got much experience with Orca -- it was just too tedious to use with a single 3.5 based system. I want to upgrade to v.1.2, but first I would like to be assured that I can use it effectively. Here's the problem: I tried to mount Orca/C to be bootable on one of my partitions. The manual (for version 1.0) gives a long, tedious procedure for doing this from the shell (I note 1.2 has an installation script -- good idea, but I don't have it yet). So far I have tried the following combinations: 1. 5.0.4 + Orca/C 1.0 (copy with finder) 2. 5.0.2 + Orca/C 1.0 (copy with Orca Shell) 3. 5.0.2 + Orca/C 1.1 (copy file-by-file with the finder) In each case, the boot hangs when trying to execute Prizm. In case 3, (I didn't try the others) if I don't put the "PRIZM U" line in the LOGIN file I can get into the text based environment OK, but it still bombs if I type "PRIZM". Can anyone help here? I tried calling Byteworks, but their technical support was "out of the office" until Monday. jim burns -- James E. I had no trouble using Finder to copy all files (relevant or not) to the /dev partition of my HD and getting it all to work. I use 5.0.2 at this time. What I may be doing differently is booting into Finder and clicking ORCA (I call it Orca/C, although is not technically correct) when I want to use it. I do it this way because occasionally I find that I want to run something else instead. :) Orca on the desktop doesn't really add too much to the process. >I tried calling Byteworks, but their technical support was "out of the >office" until Monday. > >jim burns Mike Westerfield is "technical support", At least I have never talked to anyone else. This poses a problem if he at a convention (last Kansasfest in my case) or he is in the can (without a cellular phone :). UUCP: bkj386!pnet91!ericmcg INET: ericmcg@pnet91.cts.com
