Bitch, bitch, bitch. I've had an AE 3.5 since July of last year and I
couldn't be happier. Just because you happened to have a possibly defective
unit, you hate AE. I've purchased at least 6 AE products over the years and
I've been exceptionally satisfied with them all. That's not to say that I'm
happy with their current Apple II _policies_, but their products have been
very well built. Please keep your unproductive whining to yourself, ok?

Well, I won't keep my unproductive whining to myself, ok? Ok. My //e is
filled to the rim with AE products. S1: Parallel Pro w/256k Buffer Pro.
Problem: the cable the thing came with worked fine with the Parallel Pro
alone, but when you attatched the Buffer Pro to it, it didn't work. I had
to go out and buy a different cable. S2: DataLink 2400. No problems...yet.
S3: RamWorks III 1MB. No problems yet. S4: TimeMaster ][ HO. Problem
periodically gets "reset". Sometimes I'll notice a year of 45 or something
like that. S5: 3.5" disk drive. Problem: mentioned in previous post. S6:
Phasor. No problem except for lack of software support, but that's not really
AE's fault (or is it?) S7: Vulcan 40MB. Problem: 1st Vulcan wouldn't boot.
AE replaced it. 2nd Vulcan (current one I have now) has ~11 bad blocks that
cannot be repaired, just locked out. I have a directory that is totally
trashed on it. The CATALOG is totally goofy and shows only garbage on that
subdirectory. The power supply keeps "dying". I'll be running a program and
poof, the power shuts off on the Vulcan. It's not a fuse because #1 there
are only two fuses (one's a spare) and the other one hasn't been fried &
#2 the power dying has happend about 6 times. Another problem that I believe
is the HD...ProDOS keeps getting trashed. I'll boot up, run some programs,
power down, go to boot up again and ProDOS crashes. A friend of mine
is having problems with a GS Vulcan randomly trashing blocks on his HD.
Maybe I should have said "I hate AE _support_." They do make good products,
I just wish they'd put some effort into tech support, instead of having
a damn 900 number. Their tech support BBS offers no help either, they
just quote what's in the manual.

Calm down, Jim. The guy was just expressing his frustration with AE's
products. I know how he feels. Applied Engineering's RamKeeper fried my
Apple 1 Megabyte Memory Card; the Sonic Blaster is noisy and doesn't play
the right (that is, not the left) stereo channel; and they're charging
customers $1.50 per minute to get technical support for products that
sometimes don't work, because its the company's own fault. The PC
Transporter and TransWarp GS are two such examples. Don't EVER yell at
someone for expressing the truth. Let's try not to be so hostile to other
users of the network.

I've noticed this on my Apple IIgs built-in clock periodically. Resulted
in some interesting date stamps on files, like a paint program I wrote in
AppleSoft.
