Does anyone know if apple still upgrades //c's free of charge? And if so,
what do you do if your dealer doesn't deal anymore? especially interested
in the faulty crystal mentioned a few messages back. Any info would be
great. Thanks!

Thanks! > Addict >---- >ProLine: addict@pro-angmar Apple continues to provide free upgrades for IIc computers, but the service manuals specify that the dealer doesn't have to perform the upgrade unless the customer can demonstrate it's necessary (or something like that). To get the free upgrade that replaces the bad motherboard timing crystal, you have to be able to show the dealer that it affects your use of the machine. The easy way to do this is to try to use a 1200-baud or faster modem with it -- it won't work with the bad crystal. The UniDisk upgrade comes free when you buy a UniDisk if necessary. The Memory Expansion card upgrade comes free when you buy a Memory Expansion card (or can show you've bought a third-party one). The corrected version 4 ROM can be installed free if you can show that version 3 affects your use (like you can't use dumb terminal mode anymore).
