Earlier, I asked about modedefs for the newgen turbops printer, and a modified dvips that lets you use 400x800 dpi fonts. I've made the modificatins to rokickis dvips that allow it to correct track different aspect ratios. The following works: (1) Generating a PS file at 400x800dpi using fonts I generated and printing on a 300dpi printer & dxpsview (postscript previewer) (2) Printing anything at 300dpi (i.e. backwards compatible) The following have problems: (3) Printing the file from (1) on the 400x800dpi printer - it will occasionally get an error message that prints ``--nostringval--'' for the function name. It's repeatable, but not obvious why it happens. E.g., it's in the middle of words, etc. (4) Printing a 300 dpi file from (2) on the 400dpi printer. Almost everything looks correct, except there's some minor glitches on character placement. Because all of these problems appear to be specific to the newgen printer, I think that the problem is with the printer, not the postscript code I'm generating. As mention, a 300dpi printer (an NEC) and the Display Postscript program ``dxpsview'' appear to grok the output. So, what I'd like to do is find someone else who has a 400x800dpi printer, hopefullly a newgen turbops, and who would be willing to print two different 5 page paper and tell me what the output looks like. Once I'm certain it's the local printer, I'll release the patches to dvips to support this style of printer.
