[comp.text.tex] Spell-Checkers for Latex files

cerbone@mist.cs.orst.edu (cerbone giuseppe) (03/02/90)

Hi Netters,

I would appreciate info on existing spell checkers for .tex files.

Yes, I could write a filter which eliminates all commands and leaves
the pure text, but why re-invent the wheel?

Addresses of sites from where I can ftp the programs are
also appreciated.

Traks (OOppssssss)

Thanks in advance to all.

TeX spell checkers exist - we have one, and I've seen the same one at
UMass - but I don't know of any ftp site that has one. On top of that, the
dictionary files are *hell* to transfer - VMS Backup even had some
difficulties with them.

In case no one has mentioned it yet, ispell is a great visual
spell-checker. It can recognize most TeX/LaTeX command
sequences, allows a private dictionary, etc. etc. Available by
FTP from:

	 Ispell sources in /u/public/ispell

Ispell does work well. But has anyone ported it over to MS/DOS on
a PC yet? It doesn't look like it would be *that* difficult, but
I don't want to reinvent the wheel.
