[comp.text.tex] Converting from .tfm/.pl to .nnnnpxl

rpandey@mist.cs.orst.edu (Rajeev Pandey) (03/07/90)

I have fonts for typesetting APL in .tfm and .pl format, but my system
(an Imagen dinosaur, I have access to a Postscript printer, but my dvi2ps
doesn't put in the APL stuff from the .tfm and .pl descriptions, either)
will not oblige me with printed output unless I have .____pxl files.

Is there any way to go from the .pl and .tfm description to .pxl format???

I am naive (but learning) in the area of fonts, and have been able to
produce TeX/LaTeX documents fine until now. I am at a loss as to what to
do, so *any* helpful suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

 Thanks much!

No. They don't contain the same information. TFM (TeX Font Metric) and
PL (Property List) files specify the various dimensions (metrics) of
the characters in a font, while pxl, pk and gf files contain the
bitmaps of the characters. TFM files are resolution independent. TeX
needs to read only the TFM files, while drivers need to read the
raster files and perhaps the TFM files.
