[comp.text.tex] ? Using mostly postscript fonts in TeX3.0?

With the advent of TeX3.0, with virtual fonts, and (on unix) dvips5 it
possible to create TeX formats that make minimal use of the CM fonts.
Some of my users are interested in this, so ....

Does anyone have a version of plain.tex (and the LaTeX files lplain.tex,
lfonts.tex), that uses postscript fonts instead of the cm fonts? Most
of it is easy, but I'm interested in a version that uses postscript
whereever possible, including (say) the math italic font. *I*
actually prefer the look of the CM fonts (and they are still portable),
but other users seem to like the look of the native Postscript fonts.

If I get any responses I'll summarize them to this newsgroup.

There were several reasons for my problems.
1) I only had a copy of dvips502. That version of the tar archive does
not have a copy of the afm/Makefile. Once I obtained a copy of dvips50
(with the afm/Makfile) I was able to generate most of the fonts I needed.

2) Several kind readers pointed out that there are latex style files
which set things up to use Postscript fonts. With these, my users at
least have a postscript based latex.

Thanks for the help,
