I've some trouble using dvips with my PacificPage PostScript cartridge for the hp IIP printer. I do not think that it's based on the cartridge. If I use dvips the output looks very bad on PostScript fonts. Using Bookman gives strange ligatures with the 'f' character. Also the kerning between characters is very bad. Using umlaute (\"o) with italic or slanted characters places the double-dot some space before the character. I though it was based on the tfm files and got the afm descriptions from the printer and converted them using the afm2tfm program but they still look like the one I found on the dvips 4.21 distribution. Also 5.02 does not solve the problem. Using dvi2ps helps but the LaTeX contents chapter looks not very well due the numbers of the chapter is always written over the chapter name. Anybody any idea ? thanks, Dirk Koeppen
