A question from a novice LaTeX user:
Has anyone already hacked LaTeX to go more than 3 subsections deep?
"Standard" LaTeX (what's on my system, and the one in the LaTeX User's
Guide) extends only to \subsubsection.
Yes, I know that \paragraph and \subparagraph can be used to go a bit
deeper, but that's not the point.
Ideally, the macros would permit subsectioning to an arbitrary depth.
Cross references, TOCs, etc. should all work with the deeper subsections.
Less ideally, the macros would permit subsectioning to a reasonably
deep level, like 10 levels deep.
I believe that I can see how to extend existing LaTeX to do this,
but I consider this straightforward way gross (rather like defining
i1, i2, i3 .. i10 instead of defining an array).

deep. I hope that my final version will not be more than 3 subsections
deep. But my intermediate version is, and I'd like to look at it that
way...

OK, I hacked LaTeX to 10 explicit subsections deep (although I still think it's ugly). I'm still interested in anyone else's solution, since I'm sure that some interdependencies somewhere have been broken. -- Andy Glew, aglew@uiuc.edu
