After ftping the (possibly) patched TeX 2.9 executables from sequent.kent.edu, we went on to get dvips source. After doing the usual futzing with the header files, we got dvips to compile, but it would stop almost immediately complaining, "First byte not bop". The source code checked for the first byte in the file = 127 before printing this message. Any help? Should we use dvi2ps? If so, where should we get dvi2ps? I checked three or four ftp sites which according to my ftp list should have had dvi2ps and either they had dvips or were down. The dvi2ps which I snarfed from labrea.stanford. edu was a hacked-for-GF version, so I haven't tried it. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Larry Widman
