I want to modify the headers of the standard LaTeX
book style to do the following.

eg.

Chapter 2.   Suboptimal Problem
--------------------------------------------------------------  30

My problem is really in adding the line under the header.
I have modified the headings like this:

\def\@oddhead{\hbox{}\footnotesize \rightmark \hfil\normalsize\thepage}

How would I go about creating an hrule here. I tried the following
but got a big no no from LaTeX:

\def\@oddhead{\hbox{}\footnotesize \rightmark \hfil\normalsize
              \vskip 1pt \hrule height1pt \thepage}

Any ideas out there?

Get fancyheadings.sty from one of the usual servers (or maybe you site has
it already)
