[comp.text.tex] puting a box around page 1 in LaTeX

spqr@ecs.soton.ac.uk (Sebastian Rahtz) (07/19/90)

I am writing a stylefile for LaTeX for preparing faxes (yes I know I
should do it direct dvi-->fax...), and I want to lay out the front
page with various headings, and the start of the text. Can anyone
suggest how to get the text that would appear on page 1 into a tabular
environment?

Gee Sebastian, perhaps what you want to do is redefine
\maketitle? That would work. On the other hand, a really easy way
to put a box around an entire page is do something along the
lines of
{\unitlength=1in\begin{picture}(0,0){\put(0,0){\framebox(6.5,9){}}
\end{picture}}

at the beginning of your page footer (actually, along those
lines, one of our locals took it one step further and drew the
box using PostScript and \special. Now *that's* one sharp visual
affect). We'll be putting the files into
[anonymous.tex.inputs.local] one of these days for the perusal of
others.
