[comp.text.tex] driver for 24-pin LQ or Proprinter, anyone?

cudat@warwick.ac.uk (J M Hicks) (07/19/90)

Someone here has a Canon BubbleJet BJ130E printer connected to
his computer running MS-DOS, and would like to print LaTeX
documents on it. The printer is supposed to be compatible
with the IBM Proprinter XLE24E and with the Epson LQ-800
and LQ-1000 models.

Does anyone know of a suitable .dvi file driver
for such a printer? I expect I could use a printer driver intended
for the Epson FX-80, but it would be nice to be able to print
in Proprinter emulation mode - the quality of print is
reputed to be better. Apart from this, I suspect that the
better quality afforded by mimicking better printers may give
better results. (See below.)

Also someone else here wants to be able to print LaTeX documents on an
NEC 2200 Pinwriter. This is supposed to be a 24-pin printer
compatible with an Epson LQ model. (I wasn't told the
exact printer it is supposed to be compatible with.)
The printer is connected to a computer running MS-DOS.

I have a printer driver for .dvi files for the Epson FX-80
printer (from the emTeX collection), which works on an
Epson LQ-1500 and might work on the Pinwriter, but only uses
eight-pin printing. I don't seem able to find a printer
driver for a 24-pin dot matrix printer anywhere.
(The DVIEPS program in the DOSTEX collection says it uses only
nine pins.)

Is there a suitable printer driver for 24-pin printers? Or am
I being naive in thinking that a 24-pin version would actually
be any better than what I have already?

Is there a printer driver for the Proprinter?

The new emTeX release (available soon) contains dvidot parameter
files for the IBM Proprinters 4207 and 4208 (24 pins) and for
the EPSON LQ series.

Also included are parameter files for the NEC P6, P7, and P2200.

dvidot does use 24 pins (parameter files p6m and p6h).
