Hi. I'm a beginner to using TeX, and I'm having a problem with DVIEPS. When I print the .eps file, using print, type, or copy, I get the same result -- nothing after the first equation. Using a little C program to send one byte at a time SLOWLY to the printer causes everything to go fine until the first line of text after the first equation. Then the printhead moves quickly backwards and forwards across the line, printing what look to be non-alphanumeric characters, accompanied by beeping. Then comes the next line of text, followed by vertical white space, followed by some more of the document, followed by some more messiness. The DVIEPS I am using came with a DOSTEX download, announces itself as "Version 2.10 [experimental]", and comes with documentation dated 12 October 1987. My plain TeX document is one page long and contains a substantial percentage of display math. The DVI file, produced by SBTEX seems fine -- it previews without problem in the DVIMSWIN previewer. Execution of DVIEPS seems to proceed normally, as described in its documentation. My printer is a Panasonic KX-P1191, which emulates the Epson FX-86e/FX-800 (or, with the flip of a DIP switch, IBM Proprinter II) Does anyone know what my problem might be? Is there a newer version of DVIEPS? Or a better one for Panasonic, Epson, or Proprinter II? And is there a filter that can produce a "draft-mode" output using mostly the printer's text mode for faster output? Thanks for your help Renee Mattie mattie@sun0.chem.upenn.edu
