[comp.text.tex] TeX 3.0 and LaTeX 2.09

glenn@extro.ucc.su.oz.au (Glenn Geers) (07/30/90)

Hi,
I've just (a couple of weeks ago) installed TeX 3.0 on our Sun
systems and am getting some complaints from our LaTeX users about
hyphenation being wrong (e.g. a- rc, s- mall). Fortunately, I was not
silly enough to remove the old version -:). LaTeX is at version 2.09
7 Dec 1989.
The question is: Is there some intrinsic incompatibility between TeX 3.0
and LaTeX 2.09? I've checked the obvious things. I'd really like some
help.

Followup to the net or mail whichever you deem more appropriate.

		Thanks in advance,
			Glenn

The standard files lplain.tex and splain.tex do not work properly
under TeX 3.0. Fixed versions of these files which work under TeX
3.0 as well as older TeX versions have been created by Frank
Mittelbach who is heading the LaTeX 3.0 development. These are
available by anonymous FTP from
[anonymous.tex.inputs.latex]lplain.tex
and
[anonymous.tex.inputs.slitex]splain.tex
on ymir.claremont.edu

If you do not have anonymous FTP access, you may retrieve the
files via mailserv; send the following message to
mailserv@ymir.claremont.edu

SEND [TEX.INPUTS.LATEX]LPLAIN.TEX
SEND [TEX.INPUTS.SLITEX]SPLAIN.TEX
