[comp.text.tex] LaTeX question: avoiding page 1 with empty pagestyle

My problem is this:  I want my paper generated without any page numbers.

The LaTeX manual says to use \pagestyle{empty}.  However, this does
not take effect until after the first page is output.  So, the first
page has a number on it.

How do I avoid getting a number on page 1?
