Hi, I am new to this group and was lucky enough to catch the frequently asked questions posting. I found that one of the answers (where to get the PiCTeX manual) actually raised another for me: what IS PiCTeX? Is this the same as {picture} mode in LaTeX? I am quite interested in any other means of getting graphics into TeX (I use LaTeX) since {picture} mode routinely makes latex run out of space at our site (I get the picture-mode stuff from GNUPlot, it has a latex driver.) So, what is PiCTeX? Maybe you should rephrase that question in the frequ. asked list to "What is PiCTeX and where do I get the manual?" Thanks, Jeff

PiCTeX is nothing to do with LaTeX picture mode. It is a very
ingenious set of macros that implements quite sophisticated drawing
and plotting using tiny dots (usually). it is good, but slow and
*massive*. if you run out of memory with LaTeX picture, forget PiCTeX.
get yourself a bigger TeX.
there is an article on PiCTeX in Tugboat from about 18 months ago by
memory. find a local source for Tugboat
