[comp.text.tex] DVI-to-PS filters with landscape support

nraoaoc@jupiter.nmt.edu (NRAO Array Operations Center) (08/15/90)

Does anyone have, or know of, a DVI-to-PostScript filter for SunOS 4.x which
supports output in landscape mode? It doesn't matter whether it is done by
using \special{landscape} or if the filter needs an option on the command line.

I am currently using dvips version 0.92. I have also looked at dvialw and
dvi2ps. None of these has this support (dvips claims that it does, but it
doesn't seem to actually output pages in landscape mode).

We are running the equivalent of SunOS 4.0.3 on a Solbourne, printing to an
IBM laser printer with PostScript option.

Please email me and I will post the results if there is interest.

Thank you very much.

Yesterday I asked about landscape support in dvi-to-postscript filters.
I have been absolutely overwhelmed with responses - thank you very much!

The answer is that my version of dvips is hideously out of date. The latest
version is 5.33, available through anonymous ftp from labrea.stanford.edu.
It not only supports landscape, but also legal and a few other paper sizes,
as well as embedded PS figures, etc. etc. I have installed this and it seems
to be working fine even though we are still at TeX 2.0.

I get landscape output happily from both dvips5.34 (current beta
release from labrea.stanford.edu), and dvitops (you can find on
june.cs.washington.edu), and both compile under sunos4.1. Both support
the \special{...} formulation.

both are excellent pieces of work. i bet readers of comp.text.tex are
getting very bored with me recommending them, but i am perpetually
horrified that so many people are struggling on without-dated dvi2ps
programs.
