I would like to be able to make the standard LaTeX fonts load on demand (if this is possible?) My impression is that the standard fonts are loaded into the LaTeX format file when I execute initex lplain and do a \dump. Is it possible to change the file lfonts.tex so that LaTeX can still use different size fonts, but it will load the fonts when needed? Two ways to do this: (1) modify the standard lfonts.tex. Bad plan. You lose quality of math fonts (sub/super-scripted type comes out in text sizes). (2) Switch to the new LaTeX font selection scheme (get the file [anonymous.tex.inputs.latex-mainz]fontsel.readme to find out what fonts are necessary and how to install it). We use preload.min with that file locally and have a total of 3(!) fonts pre-loaded in our TeX. All others are loaded on demand and there is no problem with math typesetting. Also, addition of other fonts is easy (we have style options for some laserwriter fonts, for example). -dh --- Don Hosek TeX, LaTeX, and Metafont support, consulting dhosek@ymir.claremont.edu installation and production work. dhosek@ymir.bitnet Free Estimates. uunet!jarthur!ymir Phone: 714-625-0147 finger dhosek@ymir.claremont.edu for more info
