[comp.text.tex] Where do I get LaTeX book?

phillip@bartal.CRLABS.COM (Phillip M. Vogel) (07/25/90)

The subject line says it. My local Computer book store has the
TeX book, but has never heard of LaTeX. Any pointers to a source
(mail order would be good) would be appreciated.

Thanks,
	Phillip

If you are new to TeX and LaTeX I would suggest that you buy

     LaTeX for engineers and scientists
     David Buerger
     McGraw Hill
     1990
     ISBN 0-07-008845-4

The book is well organized and easy to read.

What do others think of this book? (I am sorry if this has been asked
before but, as they say, I'm new here).

Tell your bookstore that they're dorks.

Then, you can order any TeX-related publications you want from
the TeX Users Group:

  TeX Users Group
  P.O.Box 9506
  Providence, RI 02940
  401-751-7760
  tug@math.ams.com

They take Visa and Mastercard and I believe they have the newest
printings of the TeXbook and MFbook (describing versions 3.0 and
2.0 respectively).

I had high hopes for this book, but was rather disapointed. It does not
cover two-column printing nor does it explain the difference between one and
two column figures or tables. It is a good companion to the "real" LaTeX
book,

LaTeX User's Guide and Reference Manual
Leslie Lamport
Addison-Wesley Publishing Company, 1986

Lamport write LaTeX (Lamport's TeX).
