I have written a book about knowledge-based systems using ditroff, which will now be processed for the library of the blind at the University of Amsterdam. As a consequence, the ditroff text must be translated into Braille. The only experience they have at the library is in the conversion of WP4.1 text to Braille. The problem with my book is that it contains a significant amount of mathematical material and ditroff figures (i.e. pic figures). Translation into Braille using WP4.1 will be very time-consuming, and I expect that most of the equations will be reproduced incorrectly (and I am not able to correct the text, being unfamiliar with Braille). So, some automatic translation procedure right from ditroff into Braille would be of real help. The following procedures would be realistic for me: 1. Translation from ditroff into Braille would be the best option. 2. Translation from ditroff into LaTeX is also acceptable, at least translation of the mathematical equation is rather straight- forward. Is there someone who knows about the availability of such software? As you may expect, this is not a commercial project, so I am not able to pay for such software. Peter Lucas.
