I too would like to find something like this, or any other solution to
the following problem:

I have a document that I want to set in twocolumn using LaTeX, but it
comntains a program fragment that needs to be set in onecolumn. I wouldn't
mind making it into a figure and having it captioned, except that it won't fit
onto a single page. I could break it into two figures, but having two captions
is unacceptable. Is there any way to supress the captioning of a figure?
Better yet, are there macros for creating uncaptioned floats in LaTeX? Best of
all, is there a solution to the general one/twocolumn problem?

This should not be difficult to do. I have TeX paper does this. The second
capability the original posting asks is

two column text less the existance of

one column equations like a+b=c

continues regard- the equations.

I am looking for solutions also.

Since there seems to be general interest on the net, I think I should
mention that I have a copy of Frank Mittelbach's multicol environment.
Not only can you define several columns (I've gone as high as three),
but you can switch between any number of columns (inlcluding, say,
two and one).

I'm not sure where I got it from, but I'd be willing to E-mail copies
to anyone who asks; a deluge of requests aside, I'll try to get a
copy of it to you as soon as possible.

Question: I have version 1.2a (dated 90/02/05), which was considered
preliminary when I got it. Does anyone know if there is a later version?
Mr. Mittelbach promised a version that could handle floats within
the columns; something I've needed to do for awhile.
