From: lost in space <moses::foster> The Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics in Cambridge, Massachusetts, sponsors free programs in popular astronomy for the general public on the third Thursday of every month. The "Observatory Nights" feature a lecture, film, and weather permitting, telescopic observing on the observatory roof. The lectures are nontechnical, but they are intended for adult and high school audiences. No tickets or reservations are required; however, seating is to the capacity of the hall and filled on a first-come basis. Doors open at 7:30 PM and programs begin at 8 PM. Upcoming lectures given by Center for Astrophysics scientists include: January 19: "Looking Through a Cosmic Camera: Gravitational Lenses in Space" - Marc Gorenstein February 16: "A New View of the Universe in Color" - Rudy Schild March 15: "Using the Shuttle's External Tank for Astronomy" - David Koch April 19: "Quasars" - Martin Elvis May 17: "Black Holes and Curved Space Time" - Jennie Traschen June 21: "In the Beginning: The Formation of the Earth" - Mike Lecar All programs will be held in Phillips Auditorium of the Center for Astrophysics at 60 Garden Street, Cambridge, Massachusetts, about one mile west of Harvard Square. Entrance to the Auditorium is at the west of the Center complex, near the Madison St. entrance and large parking lot. The Center may also be easily reached by public transportation. From the Harvard MBTA station (Red Line) take any bus or trackless trolley going west on Concord Avenue (Park Circle and Belmont buses, Huron Avenue trolleys) and get off at "Observatory Hill."
