[comp.text.tex] Summary: Getting rid of the page number

I thought it was about time I called a halt to the stream of
mail I have been receiving about my tiny problem!

Thank you to all who responded.  Here are the results:

Most people agreed that the solution was a \thispagestyle{empty}
command *after* the \maketitle.  I tried it, and I must admit,
it works!

(There were some other responses:
 1.  My method should have worked (just using \pagestyle{empty})
 2.  Put the \thispagestyle *straight after* \begin{document}
    (i.e. of necessity, *before* the \maketitle) )
