A while back, I remember seeing a posting about a bibtex style in which one could turn on or off various options by including dummy citations in the document. For example, the annote field might by default be ignored, except when \nocite{annote} appeared in the input file. This seems preferable to maintaining two separate bibliography styles, identical except for the matter of ignoring the annote field; this seems especially clear in the case where in addition to annote, are other similar fields have been created (for library call numbers, article abstracts, and such) that the user would like to display in arbitrary combinations. If someone could email me an .bst file which makes use of the dummy citation hack, or could explain a more elegant solution to this problem, I would appreciate it.
