[comp.text.tex] maketitle in article

u714092@eagle.larc.nasa.gov (prichard devon ) (10/15/90)

I need help with article style in LaTeX. The fonts and spacing generated
by \maketitle for the author, location, and thanks are not good for my
particular document, which must be double-spaced. However, I want the
location lines (Graduate ...) to be spaced at 1.5, and if possible,
in normalsize. Also, the 'thanks' would be better if in normalsize.
I've looked at article.sty and art12.sty, but don't
even come close to understanding how the maketitle macro works.
inserting \normalsize in the arguments kills LaTeX on my machine.

the beginning part of my article follows.

any ideas?

\begin{document}
