Is anyone working on (or is there available) a postscript filter for dvi files that is capable of generating fonts on the fly? I have a fast machine, limited disk space, and sporadic use for certain fonts... I recall discussion of this once upon a time, but I don't know if such a thing ever existed.

Yes, there is such a program. The version I use is named dvips version 4.1 from Radical Eye Software. I'm pretty sure it's the version that I got with my TeX 2.95 distribution from gatekeeper.dec.com It uses a script called MakeTeXPK to generate *.pk files from the METAFONT sources. It's very convenient. ================================================================== Tom Tatlow "The Question" Work: Digital Equipment Corporation, AI Technology Center tatlow@dash.dlb5.dec.com (508) 490-8500 Home: 59 Pearl Street, #3, Cambridge, MA 02139 tom@math.mit.edu (617) 876-6216 ==================================================================
