[comp.text.tex] Will dvips5395 work with Unix TeX 2.93?

wwm@pmsmam.uucp (Bill Meahan) (10/15/90)

The subject line gives tha basic question.

We have not YET upgraded our TeX package to 3.0 (or any other virtual
font scheme). Can I still compile and use Tom Rokicki's dvips (5.395)
or should I put that off until after the upgrade of the rest of the system.

In other words, does the lack of virtual fonts in my TeX mess things up?

virtual fonts have nothing to do with TeX; they are a driver facility.
TeX sees normal TFMs, therefore it doesn't matter whether your TeX is
2 or 3
