Thanks to all who responded to my question about footnotes in tables.
The minipage environment does the trick. However I would like to
customize the footnotemarks. From the Latex book I tried
\footnote[\dag]{text}
\footnote\dag{text}
\protect\footnote\dag{text}
\footnotemark.... and \footnotetext as per the eaxmple p 156
I tried the manipulations from the \maketitle definition .... and many
other things that SEEMED reasonable. But no matter what I do I cant
seem to change the footnotemark from \alph (a----z) to special symbols
like \ast \dag \ddag etc. A related question, perhaps, is what is the
proper use of \fnsymbol{ctr} (p 175 Latex book)?
Below is the table I am trying to format with `\dag` in place of `a` as
the footnotemark. Notice that I only have one footnote; it would be
very nice if there were many footnotes that they would appear in one
footnote paragraph (automatically of course) below the table, rather
than as a series of lines.
Again, thanks to all who answered- what I have now will do in a pinch
but I prefer more style control if possible.
