[comp.text.tex] How can I validate web2c?

junio@burns.twinsun.com (Junio Hamano) (10/25/90)

Could anybody give me a guestimate on what percent of Pascal
language elements necessary to compile and run the whole TeX
family is used in tangle and weave?

The background of my question is as follows:

I wrote my own version of web2c, which takes care of the
strangeness of Macintosh architecture. I tried to run this
MacWeb2C on tangle.p woven on a Sparc and got {tangle, weave}.p
using the resulting tangle.c. I ran MacWeb2C on these
{tangle, weave}.p (first generation), and using the resulting
tangle.c and weave.c, got {tangle,weave}.p (second generation)
and {tangle,weave}.tex. I am quite sure that these tangle.c and
weave.c are working correctly. What I want to know is if I can
trust them and tangle and weave tex.web with confidence.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, I am aware of OzTeX, an excellent implementation of TeX for
Macintoshes. I like it much. I just wanted to have the exactly
same (latest) version we are using on Sparcs on my Mac.
