[comp.text.tex] dvi2ps

zwicky@pterodactyl.itstd.sri.com (02/24/90)

I'm using dvi3ps (Kevin Coombe's dvi2ps amalgamations) and I have only
two problems. First, I had to make minor mods to use ledger-sized
paper, not that the two lines were a big problem. Now, however, I wish
to print dvi-ivd files. Does anyone have a dvi2ps that supports the
extensions to typeset right to left?

I didn't include support for dvi-ivd when I merged various versions of
dvi2ps for a number of reasons. Mainly, the concensus among the
experts seems to be that such extensions should be handled by
filtering programs and not directly by printer drivers. There is a
program called ivd2dvi, by Larry Denenberg, available by anonymous ftp
from june.cs.washington.edu (as part of the standard Unix TeX
distribution) which converts dvi-ivd files to ordinary dvi files which
can then be printed by any printer driver.

Re: Trouble in converting a dvi file produced by latex to postscript

I am just bringing up latex on my Sun and was able to run the sample.tex
through latex to produce sample.dvi. When I try to convert this dvi file
to a ps file using "dvi2ps" I get the following error:

        [util/lib/TeX/ps/tex.ps]  dvi2ps: internal - pre-string - TeX output
                1990.10.30:1550
        got POST command
        now reading font defsReadFontDef k=15 c=1327620741 s=458752 d=458752
        a=0 l=5 n=cmsy7 mag=300 gmag=1000
        dvi2ps: Substituted font cmsy7.300gf -> /usr/local/lib/tex/fonts/gf
        opening (new slot) font file /usr/local/lib/tex/fonts/gf

        dvi2ps: FATAL -- bad gf font file /usr/local/lib/tex/fonts/gf
        char 0 offset 506 case 5

I created the gf fonts using "pktogf" under the mfware directory and the file
is created but I'm not sure if its good or bad. If you have any suggestions
for me it would be much appreciated (if you want a copy of the font file to
examine, let me know)

                        Thanks ....... Susan
