A long time ago, I made a request for the following in comp.text.tex: >Also someone else here wants to be able to print LaTeX documents on an >NEC 2200 Pinwriter. This is supposed to be a 24-pin printer >compatible with an Epson LQ model. (I wasn't told the >exact printer it is supposed to be compatible with.) >The printer is connected to a computer running MS-DOS. I received the following useful replies. Belated thankyous to everyone -- my computer broke down for a few months, hence the dalay in doing anything. I obtained a copy of DVIPAN from the Trickle servers in Europe which take files from Simtel20. It works with an Epson LQ-1500 and with the Pinwriter. I took some founts from the DOSTEX collection to use with it -- the collection didn't have quite the right ones but the closest ones seem to be good enough for proof-reading. ----- Date: Fri, 20 Jul 90 00:44:58 CDT From: "William J. I am quit satisfied with the output, but that could be that I was used to the built in fonts and standard word processor output. I think I got it with the DOSTEX distribution, but it may have been with SBTEX or a separate DVI package. Come to think of it, I think it was the latter - in the DVI package from SIMTEL.... I've used it on a "true blue" Epson LQ-1500 and it works well enough to use it for correspondence. Paradoxically, you'll get better resolution on a lower-end Epson-- the LQ series can only do 180dpi, whereas the FX's can manage 360 vertically. The trade-off, of course, is speed: LQ's do it in one pass, where FX's require three (and an LQ pass is considerably quicker than an FX pass anyway). The disk files are also considerably larger in the case of FX's, I would imagine. This might tide you over until Eberhard Mattes releases his new drivers. It would probably work on your Bubblejet as well. They also say it's very slow, so they use draft mode for quick turnaround time, and 24-pin mode for final copies. I ftp'ed a 24-pin driver from somewhere (may be from simtel20), which reputedly works with the Epson LQ-510 and the Panasonic KXP-1124 or some such beast. My guess is that it should work with your printer, but you will have to try it. You can get it by anonymous ftp from vulcan.phyast.pitt.edu (130.49.33.16) in the directory /pub/pc/TeX, file dvi24pin.arc. ...
