Could someone please explain to me the sordid details of font families (in Plain TeX). Or alternatively, has anyone managed to make Adobe ``expert'' fonts work with Tetures (for the Macintosh)? What I would like to do, for example, is use Adobe Garamond and Adobe Garamond Expert within TeX without too much trouble. That is, I would like ligatures other than `fi' and `fl' to be automatically chosen from the expert font (e.g., ff, ffi, ffl), without forcing me to special case these within the text. Similarly, it would be nice to take advantage of other features such as italic, bold, titling caps, small caps, etc., without getting into too much of the guts of TeX. I have managed to get \it and \bf to do what I want, more or less painlessly, but I would still appreciate someone explaining to me more of the fine points of TeX font families than is in the TeXbook. Thanks for any help anyone can supply. John Dundas Jet Propulsion Laboratory dundas@granite.jpl.nasa.gov
